Did the N1SDT claim for arrive at your address? Before that did you receive LBA/LBC so that you were forewarned the claim form would be coming? Is there any good reason why you did not complete the AoS and then the defence on time? You could be struggling to convince a judge to set it aside; that is no reason no to try, so check the NEWBIE sticky second post from here: -
HAVE YOU FOUND OUT ABOUT A CCJ (JUDGMENT FOR CLAIMANT) AND NEED IT SET ASIDE?

I am so very sorry to hear about your son. My condolences.
What is the exact date of the CCJ?
Was the claim form via DCB Legal or did CEL file the claim themselves? The claim form tells you.

Don't suppose the Defendant (you?) qualifies for Help with Fees? That always helps if you have to do an application, otherwise it means stumping up £313.
Try an email to CEL first though, offering early 'full and final' settlement at (say) £40 or so … if you want. You can point out that has value to them because otherwise, you'll do an application to set aside which potentially can cost them a lot more and you will ask the court to strike out the Claim per the persuasive appeal authority of CEL v Chan (HHJ Murch).
If you were away from home in January due to your family bereavement, that should be said in your email too.
Don't hold your breath but don't delay a decision on this beyond THIS MONTH.
Come back to us with CEL's expected horrifically uncaring response.
