BT Broadband mid-contract price rises
Just received an email from BT stating our broadband package is going to increase by £3 a month from March. Do we have the right to cancel our contract? Thanks

Probably not, because this price rise will almost certainly have been clearly declared when you were engaging the contract. (BT and most other suppliers have been doing this for years, originally as a percentage increase every March, but then as a fixed amount following Government legislation/guidance).

Sadly blame ML for the change. Had he had his consumer hat on he would have argued for a fixed term contract to be a fixed price. Not the mess that it is now, where they can dream up a amount to increase, rather than the previous (before he pokedd his nose in) a known RPI + X

To be fair … he poked his nose in because increases used to be RPI/CPI only; it was only because of the longer-duration low values of RPI/CPI that the suppliers started adding the + X%. Once RPI/CPI started increasing again they didn't drop the + X% thus increases became much bigger and so ML poked his nose in.
But you're right - he could have approached it in a much more consumer-friendly way.

I have received the same e-mail. These annual increases were part of the contract/Ts &Cs I agreed to. Your's will have been the same, it will be in the Ts & Cs.
This is in my invitation to renew in 2024.
Terms and Conditions
Monthly price will increase on 31 March each year by £3 and out of bundle charges will increase by 5%. See bt.com/prices-explained for details. Other charges may increase or decrease while you are a BT customer.
No, it isn't possible to cancel, without penalty, before the minimum agreed term ends.

Back before these increases were in the T&Cs (many years ago) you could, but those days are long gone. You agreed to them when you signed up.

Plus if they persuade you to changeover to EE, theirs goes up by £4 a month.
