Is that with the same NCB as the existing policy, or starting again with no NCB?

Fresh policy I think, 0yrs NCDs. I don't think they gave her the option of adding on.

Edit - yes fresh policy. When you google it, allegedly you can add a car on (multi car) with Aviva, yet follow the instructions Google AI spits out & that's not the case. The end of their path says you can add another car - but that option isn't there in her portal.

Have you spoken to them? (or message)

You appear to want to make this as complicated as possible.

    Spoken - no.

Their app says that on her policy / level of cover, she cannot add another car & it needs to be on its own policy.

Which via the app for just herself is £500.

Yet via GoCompare after we found this out the cheapest for her was £280 …………. with Aviva!

Put me on the policy …… £245.

    £50 cancellation.

I'll gamble that it'll work out cheaper than paying up temporary cover since 2 weeks cost £120.

Not sure how pricing via the app & GC is making it complicated. Please explain.

If you can't add it on to an existing policy as a temporary car, then a 3rd policy is going to be cheaper than short term temporary insurance if its over a certain time period, eg a couple of weeks.

    OK

Move wife to car C and insure under her policy currently on Car B

If a lag SORN car B.

You then sell car A and transfer insurance to Car B which you retax.

When you buy Car D (replacement for Car A), sell Car B and if required ask for temp cover on Car B until sold or keep Car D on sorn until Car B sold.

    Keep it simple.

High level, the problem seems to be getting 3 cards insured with 2 peoples NCDs, and if a separate policy with a short duration then you're paying all their admin costs which would usually be spread over a 1 year policy for just a few weeks.

So the obvious answer is to not try to drive 3 cars by 2 people. If you can keep one off road then insure it as such which should be cheaper.

    Problem there is -

I don't want to drive car A because the more I do it the more clogged the DPF will become & the higher the chance the oil pickup seal will become a problem. So I drive it as little as possible.

But it'll still need to be taxed & insured come sale-day because they're obviously going to want to see it running.

Then I'll need a car to get to work and wife will need a car to get to work.

So all 3 need to be running, unfortunately. Thankfully car A only costs like £35 for the year on tax so isn't costing me anything that way.

I'm hoping it doesn't take long to sell & then everything will be done with, sort of, because I'll then be on to replacing car B with a more long term car for me. I think car B will pass it's MOT in a months time without huge amounts thrown at it but I'm not confident of it doing an additional 12 months at the end of those 12 months. And the timing belt has long since been on borrowed time. For the value & condition of the car I'm not paying to have it done so if it goes bang it goes bang. The car only cost me £400 anyway.
