gmail is very good, and integrates nicely with the rest of the google ecosystem

I have Proton (which I pay for) and Gmail.

Further to my previous post on me using Gmail I use duck.duck.go as my Search engine which I think helps my use of the internet.

DuckDuckGo is primarily (but not exclusively) powered by Bing and other search engines (bar Google) and other sources including Yandex and others. Its effectively a filtered version to an extent of said sources with the privacy tracking stripped out.
