It might be worth noting that the likes of Facebook and friends insist on being able to prove that you are a real person (this may not extend to the likes of a phone number that you actively use since anybody can pick up a PAYG sim no questions asked), and also that your phone number may already be known to Facebook, as per https://www.facebook.com/help/637205020878504 and presumably other Meta sites as well.

I've read about Google Voice being free in the US but I don't have a VPN and don't really need one to be honest.
