Halifax Ultimate Rewards Travel Insurance

I am planning a trip to Vietnam via India, and have lots of internal flights to see different parts of Vietnam. The main carrier that operates this is VietJet, and they have been known to cancel things last minute. I already have hotels booked, but if my flight gets cancelled, what happens, does travel insurance pick up the tab? Also to complicate things, I have paid for my friend's tickets, and she has an amex card which comes with travel insurance. Does she claim on hers and I claim on mine? Many thanks.

You need to check your policy document to see what cover you have.

They are not all the same

Some do not cover internal flights.

Similarly your friend will need to check what cover she has.

Only those named on the policy can claim from it.

All the flights would possibly have to be non refundable

Halifax will only cover you and immediate family her insurance likely wouldn't cover her due to the fact she is not at a lost unless you have proof of a bank transfer from her

Does your friend have a Platinum Amex? You (or rather they) could get a Supplementary Card issued in your name, at no extra cost. Would extend the travel insurance to you (as well as most other card benefits).

Still need to check exactly what cover is given though.

I find it easier to print out the cover and go through with a highlighter to work out what is covered and how to claim.

You also need to think if one is in an accident or taken ill is the other covered to stay with them. Even in families this is important. Being alone in a foreign country and unwell, maybe can't speak for yourself you need someone there.

You need to know how to report it, so details and numbers to hand. Get taken to a private hospital and you are liable. Each of you should have this and know the others.

Have it done because an emergency you can't think clearly.

She would be covered as she has lost her flight and/or hotel booking. Its the traveller not the payer thats covered hence we've had threads here previously from people that have bought the whole family a holiday but only insured themselves as they were the only payer and then found out they could only claim 1/6th of the loss because its per traveller.
