As the others have said, you need to enter passenger details at the time of booking as per the passport details so your partner has made a mistake here.
Even RyanAir and Easyjet do the same.
So if their T&Cs state no duplicate name bookings then so be it.
You'll need to check the T&Cs carefully.
You could of course change your name by deed poll to that of your partner and get a new passport issued in that name then insist that BA reinstate the tickets as you just happen to have the same name...
