Ebay help with sold item and buyer very quickly opening an INR case
Hi
Long time reader of the forums and has been much help in the past with various things.
First time post if anyone could help me regarding an ebay item that ive recently sold.
Small bit of history - been an ebay user for about 20 years or so, mostly buying in the past but in more recent years selling, these are mostly trading cards from my old collection from years ago which ive slowly been selling. 100% positive feedback over 1000 total buys/sales, mostly small amounts as cards not worth too much but does add up.
However i recently sold a card for £70, much higher than anything previously ive sold, buyer paid for royal mail 48 hour tracking. Item was shipped out Monday 09th February (this week).
Tracking shows: Weds 11th Feb, due to be delivered, couldn't due to inaccessible property.
Thursday 12th Feb yesterday, attempted delivery but no answer.
Buyer messaged me yesterday in a very rude and aggressive manner, saying ive been in and no one has attempted delivery, its your responsibility to get it to me, long rant basically, i politely replied and said please be patient with royal mail as there can be delays or problems with the tracking on occasion. Also said if your having problems with the post at your house you can arrange it to be re directed to a local post office or shop and pick it up when convenient, ive done this multiple times when ive not been at home. That was met with a very aggressive reply of 'its not my expletive problem, you need to deliver it to me, its your responsibility'
Buyer then immediately opened an INR case which ive responded to with the tracking details.
My question, is there anything else i can do, if it attempts a third delivery time with no luck, does the item automatically get sent back to me?
The ebay label has my return address printed on it, In that case i would happily refund in full but only when i have the item. Im trying to avoid the inevitable ebay refunding the buyer from me and no item so im out of pocket both ways. Im always polite and willing to help, ive never chased a seller after a few days, things mostly turn up out of experience, but royal mail can be abit random some times. Never had this kind of aggression from a buyer.
Any guidance is greatly appreciated

Was this a simple delivery item or did you purchase the postage yourself?

It was purchased myself out of my ebay funds, royal mail tracking 48 hour £2.75, i saved and printed the label from ebay

without proof of delivery buyer ‘should’ win the INR (I say should as eBay have done some strange things recently). Buyer will then get a refund and you would need to wait for item to come back to you, or else after 20 working days (I stand to be corrected on the timeframe) you can claim your loss with RM using a postage receipt.
One thing to note, if you allow the INR to time out then you get a seller warning , if you refund before dispute times out you don’t. Either way the buyer can leave feedback.
I’ve posted a couple of times on recent posts that I’m having terrible problems with RM , I’ve never had so many items get lost.Although of absolutely no help to you at all, but for future reference, listing higher end items as LL size and opting for SD is the way forward. That way as soon as item is sent you are covered, eBay would be handling this INR and not you, and eBay would be refunding them.

Thanks Soolin, will take this advice going forward
Just had an email to say the case has been resolved as item delivered to buyer so all ok in the end but will definitely be careful and use simple delivery for anything thats slightly expensive

I'm certain an attempted delivery is classed as a delivery in Ebay's eyes so you should win the INR case.
Click on the "Ebay Money back Guarantee Requests" about halfway down and read the drop down text.

What do you mean by 'sold a card for £70'? I'm assuming this isn't a valentine's day card.
As the item was over £20 it is very surprising that it's custom postage (not simple delivery) unless it is listed in an excluded category (generally very bulky items).
For now just check and upload the tracking info again in response to the INR, that way ebay will see you have responded to the claim. It might be worth trying to redirect the package back to you, obviously the one thing you don't want is to refund then find the buyer's address is suddenly accessible and they receive it.
There is nothing to suggest royal mail have lost the item so it's unlikely you'd need to claim for loss but if you do check exclusions very carefully.

It was a trading card collectable. Whenever i list trading cards there is usually simple delivery and custom postage so you can choose either, low cost ive always done custom postage but didn't think about this item properly as it was higher price and should have done simple delivery, will know for future.
The package was delivered in the end on royal mail`s third try, no issues. However the buyer has left me negative feedback for apparently not helping them, bizarre the item was delivered, there wasn't anything i could do whilst royal mail attempt to re deliver. Did say to the buyer that if they cant deliver it on the third time, i would contact royal mail and get it delivered back to me and issue full refund. Never had negative feedback before as always polite and helpful

it might be worth appealing the neg. Sellers have a limited number of appeals, it shows when you view your own feedback page. Choose the reason for the appeal carefully, something along the lines of ‘assistance was not refused, item was still in transit and I needed to wait until all delivery attempts were exhausted’.
