Amex credit refund (BEWARE)

OK - sorry that I misunderstood.
FWIW - I don't think AMEX have been unreasonable in verifying the account the money was paid out to was yours. You could not provide that verification so they offered you a cheque instead.
What thread would you have written here if any random person had contacted AMEX and they paid out your airline refund (presumably a reasonable sum) to that complete stranger?

This happened to me also, I have ditched Amex in the recent months.

Since 2019…
Natest £264m
Credit Suisse £147m
Santander £101m
All fines from the FCA to banks for failures in their AML, and thats just the UK fines, expand to world wide and you get $4.3bn for Binance, $2bn for Danske
These kinds of numbers drive change

My 2p's worth.
When processing any refund to any account they can CHOOSE to use COP or not.
If they do - the details the OP has submitted to them could be confirmed.
I assume here that they batch process refunds in bulk but using Confirmation of Payee, surely it would be cheaper and more cost effective than issuing cheques.
So I am on the side of the OP here - they should have done better.

Thank you, at least I’m not the only one who thinks Amex are being difficult. Still no sign of a cheque…

Yesterday I used the chat function in the Amex app. To my surprise, the agent said my credit was being refunded by bank transfer.
They asked me to upload a bank statement of my account. This morning I received an email from Alex saying: Your credit balance refund has been processed.
I will update you when the money actually hits my account.
UPDATE: I can see the money is being credited in my direct debit account on Monday. This is funny because the bank details and the statement I provided was for a different account…

That would make sense to me - pay monies back into a known account that you pay from.

I received the refund in my account this morning. It took Amex 11 days and 4 phone calls to return my money. I also had to message them 3 times using the chat function in the app (I definitely recommend this over ringing them). I reckon it would have taken much longer to get my money back if I hadn't been so persistent.
