New bought used car advice

Took the car to a mechanic on the 3rd January, where the fault was reset as per agreed, collected the car on the 4th.
Fault reoccured on 16th January & took car back on 19th where I requested the refund. Transferred the car to dealership on 24th January as they were telling me it was "wear & tear" & to try to claim on the warranty. Make several requests since but they're now stating it's a "maintenance issue"

A little story that might help. I had a Mercedes C220d - diesel - and with that car I had the same engine management light pop up. It was a used car so I took it to a local garage who said it was the NoX upstream sensor and it needed replacing. But it was a mercedes only part and would cost over £600. This was diagnosed via the garage's software as well. But I decided to take it into a Mercedes main dealer and see if they could diagnose it. Well long story short, it was simply a Mercedes software update that needed to be done, and cost me £120. It does show that not everyone knows what is up with a car and getting different opinions sometimes helps.

That's £1000 at dealership prices. Could easily be £400 worth at a local garage. As already mentioned, those are not serious faults.
What's the age and mileage of the vehicle and how much did you pay?
