Unsigned private road

I have been parking on a road that leads into a small estate of half a dozen houses, on occasion during work hours during the day. It is a very wide road and nowhere near any of the houses, in fact can only be viewed from 1 of them. 100% not inconsiderate parking. I assumed the road was public.

Yesterday there was an "offical looking" sticker on the windscreen saying i was tresspassing on private land. It was a "polite notice" (on the sticker), and said action would be taken in future, pictures had been taken, number plate logged. It looked a little better than something a "local" would concoct

I checked up on the internet,to my surprise it is actually not a public road.

However, there is no signage stating the road is private (the street sign is a normal street sign with the name and nothing else), obviously also no other signage stating parking prohibeted, charges etc

Parking here makes my life much much easier and affects nobody, with even a remotley reasonable thought- i am as bad as it gets with these things, and it wouldnt annoy me if i lived there.

Thoughts?

You would be surprise the length some idiots go to. I had a lady saying we were not allow to park in a parking bay. No signs and she didn't even have a car. During the discussion she sad locals had asked the council to install parking meter, at which point I asked 'so it is public parking then?'. Naturally she stormed off in a huff.

    Yep, let's see this sticker.

And any parking related signs along that road. Look hard. Could be on buildings.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
