Another used car query
Hello all
Just looking for an answer on if this is something I can persue or something I just have to suck up.
I will give bullet points but if you need more information then I am happy to provide.
- Purchased used (2022) car from dealership online 29/11/2025
- Car was delivered to me 4/12/2025 with MOT dated 19/11/2025
- I noticed one of the rear seatbelts would not latch and made them aware on 16/12/2025 also engine bay tray loose and rattling
- They authorised local dealership to order parts and repair
- Repairs were completed at local branch 30/1/2026
When the local dealership had the car for the repairs they did a vehicle inspection and when I collected the car I noticed on the report 2 red ticks (urgent repairs required) under the rear discs and pads selection with a comment that chunks are missing from discs. I questioned this with the guy and he went away, came back and said they will order the parts and call me when they are in.
Today he called and said they can’t complete the works as the original dealership will not authorise the job and quoted wear and tear.
Now yes I understand it could be wear and tear but I have not done many miles since I got it and I am really not sure if this is something I could escalate?
It’s really frustrating if I have to accept this so soon after purchasing (loan) but I’m also not willing to fight something that sounds reasonable?

"chunks are missing from discs" sounds odd, is that literally how it's worded? In general, brakes are consumable parts that do wear down, but 'chunks missing' is rather different from routine wear - what sort of mileage have you done since purchase?

Hi
Hopefully I have uploaded it correctly, yes I have never heard this description before and to be honest it is worrying and I am reluctant to drive it.
Mileage when purchased 52850, they drove it 240 miles to deliver it to me so not sure if that counts as my mileage or not but it currently sits at 53516 miles

are you able to see said “chunks” ?
If so, can you post a picture of them

No I hadn’t thought to go and see if I could see anything honestly. I don’t think I’d know what to look for although ‘chunks’ would probably be even something I would notice.
I will take a look at first light in the morning but in the meantime I’ve sent both branches an email crafted by copilot just questioning the refusal to authorise and also to see if they did a vehicle inspection when they had it.The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2026 #26 £667.95/£667.95✔️Save £12k in 2026 #12 £14,315.67/£7500

AI has its uses, but can generate plenty of nonsense too, so using it for something like this potentially risks losing credibility if there's anything legally 'creative' in there.

As this has cropped up within 6 months of delivery, then under the CRA doesn't the selling dealer have no choice but to carry out or aurhorise repairs, unless they can establish that the brakes were OK at the date of purchase? How would they do that?

yes I removed all the paragraphs about my ‘rights’ etc as I don’t trust anything I don’t 100% know is truth or factual. To be fair I’m still not sure on if they are right or wrong, if my tyre had got a puncture then I wouldn’t have given it a 2nd thought and just paid up.
The discs and pads are in a middle territory as I know they do wear down it’s just the timing and mileage done after buying it that has me thinking I shouldn’t be having to payout for this so soon.

Was the pre-sale MOT a completely clean one or were there any advisories, etc?
