Unable to Underline Text in the New Editor
What I did:
There is no option to underline text. What I used to do in the old editor is a) highlight text then do "control+U" or b) switch to HTML and insert < U > and < /u > at the relevant places. (Spaces are deliberate.)
We need an underline button.
What Should happen:
My text should be underlined.
What happened:
Nothing works.
Why it matters:
Like many participants, I underlining to highlight text, e.g. on the grocery challenge, where I underline the amounts so that the thread lead can pick up my monthly budget.
Device/Browser:
Multiple devices: Apple iPad mini 14, Apple iPhone 15, Dell PC laptop running Windows.

Hi @PipneyJane
I believe the lack of underlining is an intentional omission. Probably because underlining is usually associated with hyperlinks - it's common to discourage underlines from non-linked text for clarity and Accessibility.
A lot of for modern online text editors to have removed this feature - You've noted that it wasn't available by default in the old editor. You had to do something special to get it.
Emphasising with bold or italics is still available.

Thanks for getting back to me @MSE_Stephen . It is not possible to bold text when using one of the headline fonts and italics often get lost in the "noise" of the text, hence my use of underlining.
The whole point is to try to make something stand out, so that the person running in the thread can spot it easily without having to read everything.

Hi
I'm afraid underlining in text returning is very unlikely.
Higher Logic Vanilla is committed to making its software usable by all people by meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 Level AA (WCAG 2.1 AA)
If the forum in any way doesn't meet the above standards now, it will when we update layouts in the near future. I don't think it's completely ruled out by the standard, but probably strongly discouraged.
Even in the unlikely event that we could add this as a feature request and we were given the technical ability to turn it on, MSE's own accessibility team probably wouldn't okay it.
Hopefully there's some other way to highlight the important text, or change the format, in a way that will suit your needs. 🙂
