Dental Charges for 19 year old in full-time education
Hi
I need clarification as I am getting conflicting info on this please.
My 19 year old SEN is in full-time SEN education and not receiving any benefits.
I was advised (and have read on the NHS website) that 19 year olds in FTE are exempt from fees - she will be due to pay the charges when she turns 20 (in December).
The dentist has said that now is is 19 she is no longer exempt.
I have paid the fee and contacted them to advise of these facts but they are adamant that she i no longer eligible for free treatment as the rule is under 18's in FTE.
Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I can provide the 'evidence'.
Many thanks.

Under 19 if in full time education. See this link

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.1 -
There is some useful information at
Who can get free NHS dental treatment or help with dental costs - NHS
Towards the top of the page it refers to people under 19 but you say that your daughter is 19. I wonder if you are confusing this with the rules for Child Benefit where you normally still qualify for Child Benefit if your child is under 20 and they stay in approved education or training.

With many dentists now you pay them the NHS charge, then claim it back from the NHS.

Have you got a link to the page on the NHS website that states free treatment for under 20 in FTE?

You can get free NHS dental appointments and treatment if:
- you're aged under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education

Under 19. means less than 19, not once you are 19.
All under 18’s are eligible and if you are in FTE you are eligible until your 19th birthday.

''Under 19. means less than 19, not once you are 19.''
I know what under 19 means, but OP seems to think that,
''My 19 year old SEN is in full-time SEN education and not receiving any benefits.
I was advised (and have read on the NHS website) that 19 year olds in FTE are exempt from fees - she will be due to pay the charges when she turns 20 (in December).''
He was asked to provide a link to the NHS website, but nothing so far.

Hi there
Thanks for all of your comments.. well, most anyway :-)
I am fully aware what under 19 means, thank you, I have a Business Degree and think I can work my way round that one.. I was merely seeking clarification on conflicting information gathered via Co-pilot - so my mistake for trusting AI #:
For individuals under 20 years old, NHS dental treatment is free if they are dependants of someone receiving NHS dental treatment. This includes those who are currently pregnant or have given birth within the last 12 months. Additionally, those under 19 and in full-time education may also qualify for free NHS dental treatment. It is important to note that eligibility for free NHS dental treatment can vary, and individuals should check their specific circumstances to determine their eligibility. www.nhs.uk+1
I am also aware of the Child Benefit Rule and over 19's in FTE.
So, I posted without delving into the detail but I only sought more info as it was the dentist who told me, initially, that she was exempt….
Hope you all enjoy your day :-)
