0% boiler deals - which are the best

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker

I'm going to need a new boiler some time in the next 12 months. I won't qualify for any of the grants and schemes as I earn too much, but I live alone so have to watch the pennies. Does anyone know where to find the best deals to help pay for a new boiler and installation over time? I've had a quick google and there are lots sites offering it, but it's difficult to workout which is best. I've done money supermarket but I think that's just given me boiler prices and installation rather than finance deals…

I cannot assist directly with your question, but may I suggest you could probably find a better solution by breaking down your issue into two constituent parts?

    i.e.

    1. Find the best replacement boiler deal without considering the finance side
    2. Consider then how best to fund the intended purchase

Why? Because the cost of any 0% boiler deal will probably have the cost of finance built into the initial purchase price.

You seem to have already found one source to compare boiler & installation costs.

In regards funding, perhaps a 0% credit card may suit?

That really depends on your own financial circumstances, and over what period you hope to repay. Even if unable to pay off fully within the initial interest free period a credit card may offer, it may be possible to get another interest free credit card later to settle the remainder.

The link I provided above also suggests other possible sources of funding if a 0% credit card is not right for you.

I would check BOXT - They did our boiler 2 years ago and we are extremely pleased with it and the price !

They do a genuine next day replacement and they appear to be quite good at the job !

    They offer 0% finance deals

Try looking at the gas safe register for your area and find a one-man business, the lack of overhead should get the price down to well under £1500, supply and install, for a combi boiler. You could use sites such as rated people and list your requirements as well, though there is some cartel pricing in certain areas.

You will qualify for an A2A or A2W grant despite earning too much money for the other grants, worth looking at (it does mean no gas but if you have a separate cylinder and immersion heater you can use that with A2A, which snags you £2500 towards the cost - they seem to have upped the cost already to £2500 for a single unit and four split units are £5000, so £2500 less the grant. A2A gets you instant heat (or cooling) that is quicker to heat rooms than even gas boilers, can switch on and off as desired without affecting COP, which would be circa 4, so running costs are similar to gas on std electric tariff but cheaper if you go for something like Octopus Cosy and have half decent insulation.

You'd qualify for the £7500 grant on a heat pump. The final cost can be similar, or even less, than the cost of a boiler replacement, with Heat Geek's Zero Disrupt methodology.

I'm another happy BOXT customer. I can't claim they're the absolute cheapest solution but they were quick and competent.

I paid for my boiler with a 0% credit card, much as suggested by gpman above.

Also do not forget to try some local suppliers who may offer deals & should be a lot easier to deal with should anything go wrong.

Price and finance is always an important issue for many of us.

But given you have a bit of time (its not like a winter emeregency replacement) sometimes its better to go for something with a better warranty / guarantee (if your willing to keep it serviced annually to maintain the cover).

Perhaps try your local library and get hold of say Which's latest boiler brand / model reviews.

Maybe talk to friends / colleagues / neighbours etc - to see if recommend a good local installation and service company - often better than relying on the big boys - and avoiding their prices / insurance cover rates.

Once you have a better idea of the myriad of choices - you can then shop around for prices / finance.

Don’t forget to check how long the warranty is. You can get up to 10 years with the right installer.

If you don't actually need the boiler yet, get saving up for it now and then you might already have the funds available by the time it needs replacing.

Stick some money away each month and earn some interest on it.

Yes, 0% isn't free, they just load it on the upfront price.
