Fit to travel but not insured for condition
I've just had a preliminary diagnosis of 'mild stable angina' re an incident of breathelessness that happened 3 months ago long after I booked 'bucket list' holidays to Asia.I've been fine since and been given aspirin, statins to take and a GTN spray to use in case I get out of breath. I asked the consultant if I was ok to go on holiday and he said there's no reason why not and he couldn't say I was unfit to travel so I can't claim on my insurance if I cancel. However because the diagnosis is only preliminary and not confirmed my insurance won't cover me for the condition. Having read my travel company's t&c it says I have to be insured for any pre-existing condition but I can't declare it as a pre-existing condition to my insurer as I haven't got a confirmed diagnosis. If I don't go I'll lose several thousand pounds. Help!.

What needs to happen to get a confirmed diagnosis, is it a procedure such as an angiogram? If so are you having to wait an unknown length of time to get a NHS appointment for that? You might want to consider finding out what it would cost to have the procedure done privately and receive a diagnosis from a private consultation, and weigh that cost against the loss of the whole holiday.

Have you tried other insurers?
If your existing company will no longer cover you they should refund the balance of your policy.

I need an MRI scan of heart, estimated wait 3 months then wait after that for appointment with consultant to discuss results then wait to receive letter of confirmed diagnosis.

They'll cover me for everything except this condition until such time as I get a confirmed diagnosis, it's standard industry policy not to cover pre-existing conditions that don't have a confirmed diagnosis

Speak to your insurer, they should offer you the option of covering everything except for related conditions or the option for you to cancel and they refund you the cost. With a fit to fly from the consultant it may be that they will cover you, possibly with a premium to cover this condition. Certainly worth a conversation.
Otherwise your options are to get insurance from one of the companies that provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions.Alternatively you need to get the scans done; if you went privately you would get the scans within a week and the results soon after, including a letter confirming diagnoisis, that the consultant will probably dictate the same day as your appointment. Not sure where in the country you are or the price of getting this sorted. A quick google and one of the first listed offers it, including written report and consultation for under £1,000.

My insurer already does cover me for everything except this condition but I can' t cancel and get a refund because the doctor says I'm fit to travel. They provide cover for pre-existing conditions but they need a confirmed diagnosis, that's the problem and it's the same with any insurer from what I can see. I'm not going to have time to go private for my first holiday.

How soon is this first holiday? Having been in a situation where my other half needed a heart MRI and diagnosis confirmed and time was of the essence, we managed to arrange it to be done the next day with the results emailed through that evening! Granted we live in London and had assistance to arrange it, but these things are possible.

I interesting some of your replies in that your insures will still cover for other medical events but not one.
I have just advised my insurer as to the effect of my adding a new medical condition and because they will not cover that they will not cover me for any medical condition.
My wife when a couple of years back added a condition she got the same response you will not be covered for any medical condition.

Well that's information that should have been provided up front, there's no point in anyone trying to offer you a solution that can't be completed in less than 24 hours. If the holiday provider says you must have insurance then I think you have to face the fact that you won't be going.
