Children's (Bonus) Bonds.

Hello. I wonder if anyone can help. I want to trace some Children's Bonus Bonds, (as were, I understand the bonus bit was dropped some time ago). As a new grandmother, I purchased the bonds over a period of some months, 2002 - 2003. The family concerned moved house shortly afterwards and the paperwork was lost. Unfortunately, they also forgot to advise the relevant authority of their new addres. I originally invested £1,000 which should have accrued a reasonable amount of interest over the years. I would like to recover this money and any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Twitcher80.

I bought these for my niece who was born in 1999. I bought them for her on each birthday and Christmas from about 2003 until 2010.

As I recall, each bond lasted for 5 years. The child could access them from and after the 16th birthday but they could choose to continue them until the child reached 21.

You should write to NSI giving:

Your name and address and your address at the time of purchase

The child's name and date of birth, and the address of the child at the time of purchase

The approximate dates you bought the bonds and the total amount bought (I think they were bought in units of £25)

The person you nominated to control the bonds and the address of that person at the time you bought the bonds; this would normally be the father or mother of the child (and was a requirement for you to state when you purchased)

Ask NSI to carry out a search and ask for details of how the child (now adult) can claim the funds due. It will be for the "child" to claim. There will be a form to fill and possibly ID requirements.
