How do I value old 25p Lloyds shares to determine if I have a cgt liability

quick question please. For a cgt calculation is it ok to use the certificate date to get a historic purchase price from your links as I don't know the actual settlement date. Thank you

I think that should be fine. FWIW, it would be the purchase date that counted, not the settlement one but in the absence of knowing the actual purchase date I can't see much wrong with using the share certificate date. Any differences are likely to be relatively small and will probably balance out over multiple purchases. With ~10,000 shares it's not as though you are going to be owing a huge amount of CGT even if you were to sell them all in the same tax year without gifting any to your spouse so unless your other tax affairs are complicated there's not much expectation that HMRC would challenge your figures (but obviously best to try and be as accurate as practical so you can defend them if challenged)

The settlement date isn’t relevant, it’s the day and price the purchase was made that matters.

You should be able to get your entire transaction history from the registrar of Lloyds shares - Equiniti.

Just to mention that if you acquired some of the shares through an option then the base cost for those shares will be the price you paid to exercise the options not the share value on the date of exercise (unless you paid income tax when you exercised the options).

Everybody appears to presume that the OP has actually sold these shares. I suspect he doesn't know that CGT is only assessed when a gain is realised.
