angchris - you could make Turkish coffee. In Turkey they use a tiny, tiny 'pan' with a long handle, but it will also work in a very small saucepan.
Put a tablespoon-full of ground coffee in the bottom of the pan. In Turkey they will also add the sugar at that point. Pour on water and bring to the boil, until the coffee grounds rise to the surface. You will have to experiment a little with the quantity of water - a mugful maybe, depending how strong you like your coffee. Once the grounds have boiled up, stir once, then leave to infuse. The grounds will settle back down at the bottom.

You don't need a percolater, just one of those cafetieres -glass jug with a plunger. You can buy 1 person ones, I'm sure I've seen them at tesco -don't think they cost that much.
Or, you could make the coffee in a glass jug (1 heaped tbsp per person), pour over just boiled water. Leave to brew for 4 mins (I use a timer on mine -sad, I know). Then strain the coffee through your finest sieve/tea-strainer -a bit of muslin over a sieve might work best.0 -
that sounds like a good plan will give it a go
only thing is i have nothing to strain it with other than a flour/sugar sifter i have just bought from lakeland sale (halfprice with a £10 off voucher + quidco
) do you think that would be fine enough to strain the coffee through?

You could use a pair of old tights, with the fabric stretched single, or double over a mug.0

angchris - it is not a problem if you leave the coffee grounds to settle at the bottom, then pour off the coffee carefully leaving the grainy bit behind. The Turks don't use strainers either (but you leave the last bit of coffee in the cup!)
if you would invest in 'equipment', a plastic filter funnel and paper filter can be used on top of a mug, and would be cheaper than a plunger pot."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

I think a plastic cone with a filter paper ofer any old jug is the best way of making coffee - you can use the methods as above, but if you find you want to carry on making filter coffee, a plastic cone only costs about £2, and you can justbuy (very cheaply) filter papers that fit them from supermarkets, or lidl! Pop some ocffee in tha paper (inside the cone) rest it on top of a jug and pour boiling water through - voila!
Also if you want to make a coffee for a guest them migt be a bit dubious of you straining it through your tights!0 -
ok im back with a steaming hot cup of coffee  and its delish!! i couldnt find any tights you`ll be pleased to know but i managed fine with the sifter decanting into a couple of saucepans. my kitchen now does look like a bit of a devastation zone but at least i can use the coffee yayyy. i got the official thumbs up from mr angchris which is great because i bought 2 hampers so have 2 pouches of coffee to use. thanks everyone!!:T :T ok the other question i have is the quince jelly...i`ve never even heard of a quince before...what is it?
and how do i use it, i take it you can just spread it on toast etc or is there something else i can make with it?
