Company chasing for payment already made
In December 2025, I purchased an item online for £12.99 from a small company I had not used before. Payment was made by card, and the item was delivered without issue.
In January 2026, the company contacted me claiming that my card provider had reversed the payment and that the amount was still owed. I checked my bank account and confirmed the payment had been taken and not refunded. My card provider also confirmed that no reversal or chargeback had occurred and that the payment was successful.
I informed the company of this and asked them to provide evidence of the alleged payment reversal, but they did not respond. Since then, they have continued to chase payment, and their most recent email threatens legal action and a default on my credit file.
This is very concerning, as payment was made in full and no evidence has been provided to support their claim, and so I don't know what else to do.

I wouldnt worry about it. They cant put a "default" on your credit file as this isnt a credit agreement, they only way they could affect it is if they took you to small claims, won, and then you refused to pay within 30 days. None of that will happen for £12.99 and in any case you can prove the payment was made cant you?

They're bluffing - theoretically they could take you to court but would be required to come up with evidence then, but they're never going to do that for £12.99, and you'd get the opportunity to defend it all the way if they did!

Yes, my card provider said my statements are proof of the payment being made and not reversed. They said if it had been reversed, it would have been returned to my account.

Well there we go then. Either pay any further correspondence no attention, or write to them pointing out they can't put anything on your credit file without them taking you to court first and winning, where they would have to provide the evidence, so invite them to put their money where their mouth is.

What company?
Other potential customers need to know who to avoid.
(If they are wrongly alleging that you haven't paid them when you can prove that you have, they can't legitimately complain if you point out their error)
