Hisense dishwasher failure after 3 years

My Hisense dishwasher HV661D60 failed completely after 3 years. It cost over £400 to repair as it needed a replacement pump and a replacement control board. This is unacceptable as an internet search revealed that dishwashers should last from 6 to 20 years depending on quality of construction and level of usage. As a 2 adult household we did not run it every day so it had only light usage.

The dishwasher washes well but I will not buy this brand again.

At 3 years it'd probably be out of warranty period (unless Hisense offer a longer one) - your consumer rights lie with whoever you bought it from.

However, given you've had the repairs done now I don't know if there is much you can do

That's quite a poor lifespan, but honestly I see so many white goods lasting between 2 and 5 years (and not a whole lot longer) I'm sadly not surprised.

If this is just a warning to others it may be worth requesting the thread is moved to Praise, Vents and Warnings - if you're looking for consumer rights advice, unfortunately you've shot yourself in the foot by having the device repaired rather than attempting to force the retailer to repair it at their cost.

My Bosch dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer must all be over 10 years old now, had to do a few minor repairs (door handle), but all going strong. That is why I would never purchase an eco brand such as Hisense.

I had a Candy washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer as part of my new kitchen (in the house which I now rent out). The seller - Trago Mills - messed up by forgetting to put my order through for the appliances. Resulting in me not getting them until 4 months after I had paid for them.

So, I had 9 months use of them when the dishwasher broke (failed to cycle and drain). Candy didn't want to know because I was past the 12 month warranty. As I had tenants in by then, I couldn't wait and argue the case so I bought a new Beko one. I also tried to fight with Trago Mills to say that I should get some compensation because it was their fault they technically robbed me of 4 months worth of warranty. They would not even reply to me.

Then 2 months after that, the fridge freezer broke. Again, just out of warranty, had to buy a new one for tenants.

It's a shambles the way none of these companies are held to account, or at least you can only hold them to account if you have the time and energy to go down the appropriate route.

It just goes to show how much faith they have in their own equipment if they only offer 12 months warranty. Richer Sounds for example, routinely offer 5 or 6 years warranty on larger items because they have faith in what they sell. Sadly this is a rarity and not the norm

Many of us, have devices that are years old. But sadly some breakdown much sooner, such as the OP's. If out of warranty, then while you do have consumer rights. Given the age of the dishwasher their are hoops to jump through under CCR. Which delays any outcome.

Sometimes, it is just easier to do as OP & get it fixed yourself, as it is quicker.

I would have been sorely tempted to just buy a new one...might have cost a bit more but at least you'll have a few years peace of mind.

While out of warranty, there may have been some consumer rights route for a partial refund based upon expected lifespan but that ship may have sailed now the device has been repaired.

I am also intrigued as to how you came to agree a repair bill of £400 on a 3 yo dishwasher rather than purchasing a new machine.

our Miele dishwasher has recently celebrated its 20th birthday. It had a slight problem so we called out a Miele engineer. It cost £300 which included parts if they were needed. Apparently had a small pebble in it and once that was removed it’s been working perfectly. It cost just over £1000 20 years ago but has been well worth the money
