Range Rover Evoque failure of DCDC Converter
Hi All, this is my first post and I cannot find any posts referring to the issues.
I leased a new Range Rover Evoque MHEV which is now 3 & 1/2 years old with 28,000 miles on the clock. The contract ends in May.
I have recently discovered that there is a known problem with the electrical circuitry failing. This is usually due to a software issue or a failure of the DCDC Converter. It mainfests with a red warning DO NOT DRIVE which has happened to my car.
I have recovered the car to the local main dealer. After 2 weeks waiting, they plugged it in to investigate and decided that it needs a new DCDC Converter. I do not consider that they have tried a reboot since why would they when the charge for replacing starts at £2000 +vat and customers are ignorant!!
The car is therefore currently unuseable, however I should reasonably expect for this not to occur. The second issue becomes that the lead time for spare parts is far beyond reasonable and their cost is exorbitant!
I have since booked the car in for a second opinion with a local specialist who does very well from JLR's non-diligence. They are familiar with this issue and already have several cars awaiting repairs. The problem becomes a lead time of at least 4 weeks for a replacement DCDC Converter and I've been waiting another 2 weeks for them to have a slot to check the car and hopefully a reboot.
I have spoken to the leasing company whose reponse was "not our problem"!
I have now written to the leasing company stating that the goods are not fit for purpose.
Has anyone else had these issues and got any advice for me other than do not ever buy another JLR product again. They are nice cars to drive, but when things go wrong, they are unreasonably tardy in their ability to investigate, spare parts are difficult to source and they are unfairly expensive.

Seems to be a newer occurrence of this, for which they've already recalled quite a few cars globally: https://ec.europa.eu/safety-gate-alerts/screen/webReport/alertDetail/10002424?lang=da

Your leverage is with the leasing company under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The supplying party must provide a vehicle fit for purpose, including repair within a reasonable time. Formally demand a courtesy car, cost mitigation, or contract remedy. Document delays and escalate in writing.

From experience with Hyundai/Kia EV's (this is a common issue with E-GMP platform), rebooting such is pointless. It will have blown a part in the ICCU.

50 grand motor, and the way to fix it is to turn it off and turn it on again….

This is why you should never lease a new vehicle for for longer than the warranty period.

The warranty period on a new (50 grand) Range Rover is only three years? That's just, er, so unexpected.

Yep…
New Range Rover models in the UK come with a 3-year or unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty

Not even Land Rover expects an Evoque to last for much more than 3 years.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
there are a few videos online where the owners believe the dcdcconvertor has caused a fire and burnt the car out

When the warning light came on you should have pulled over, parked and called for recovery, it is not a "keep going until convenient" light.
