Fuse energy help?
Hi all,
I switched to Fuse energy in December and they quoted me a monthly DD of £187 per month.
I have had my bill through for this month and it’s £340 🤷🏻♀️.
Has anyone had experiences with them as this seems a crazy amount to use for gas and electric.

Fuse only offer monthly variable DD so you pay for what you use in the month, high bills in winter and lower in summer. Their quoted £187 is only an indicative monthly average over the year so can be compared with other suppliers. This is made clear in their sign up. Are the meter reads billed correct ?

They can only "quote" you the info you tell them about your predicted usage. And as said they bill for the entire previous month, they dont average it out.
Have you actually used the energy they claim you have used?

My electricity usage has also been very high this month due to the cold, sunless weather. I'm not with Fuse. So I'm not surprised by a high bill as such. If you share details of your tariff and the kWh you've used someone can check your bill.
Your heating bill should be a lot less in summer which may make the DD look more sensible.

I think the problem is that Fuse will appear on the comparison sites as X per month but that is an average and doesnt account for the fact they always bill for the previous month, will likely catch a few out.

It's the cost of what you have consumed. It would probably cost even more with another supplier & tariff (assuming you are not on the Fuse Pants Cap tariff)

does submitting a meter reading on the 1st include smart meter users?

No, they use the smart meter readings (assuming its reporting OK)

Fuse take the money very quickly on variable direct debit compared to Octopus, though the latter have now come down from 15 days to 12 days and probably falling more - worth bearing in mind when you switch, as the timing might help with cash flow. I am with Octopus at the moment but waiting to see what the zero/low s/c tariffs are like if they ever turn up but Fuse have relatively good tariffs for very low users. Fixed until April anyway on reasonable rates compared to the std tariff.

Fuse standing charges on their fixed tariffs are consistently below the Pants Cap SC rates.
But their standing charges are not consistent; they've had a few tariffs with lower standing charges, and some with higher. Their current 15m tariff has some low(ish) standing charges. If you see something that appeals, you need to grab it when its on offer
My Fuse tariff (NLA) is about 28% lower for electric standing charges compared to the pants cap for Jan, and gas sc is over 40% lower. I think EDF were offering their double discounted tracker at the time.
There's no set time yet when/if Ofgem will force suppliers into offering a lower sc tariff, and even if they do, it may not be financially advantageous. See recent MS article on this.
Martin Lewis: Standing Charge reform 'series of over-promises'
"Now I genuinely don't know if we'll get anything at all. And I suspect if Ofgem does act, and it follows this mechanism, not enough people will switch and they'll say, 'it wasn't worth it'."
In the meantime, a bird in the hand …
