My Experience with Dial Direct Car Insurance
Following the following experience I have now had a sympathetic response from Dial Direct who will be investigating this situation and reporting back to me afterwards. Have also hade a phone call (which I unfortunately missed) to discuss this. Watch this space.
I was already insured with Dial Direct and as I was buying a new car I need to change the policy details. The new car is a common make and model - a Mercedes GLA 200d.
Nomvuyo Hlabangane on the Chat line told me - "We have a C200, we do not have C200d. We as Dial Direct do not have it on file. You will have to shop around for insurance".
So I phoned up to speak to someone (from outside UK).
After waiting a long time to speak to someone, he eventually told me he had a technical error and would ring me back.
After waiting for ages he never rang me back.
So I tried again to speak to someone and waited ages. Eventually, once again someone from a non-UK call centre answered only to be told same as the Chat line that they had no insurance for my make and model.
Moneysupermarket for one example offer many choices from different insurance companies that I could use.
Now I have had to cancel my Dial Direct insurance policy and take out another, actually with Hastings, who where quick to respond and most helpful.
This has cost me a £60 cancellation fee all because Dial Direct are not able to offer insurance on a common make and model of car.

Do you have a question?

Do you have the registration details for the new car? They should have been able to find it using that. If not, thats probably the issue as Dial direct do have the GLA200d on their system, but they have a ridiculous categorisation system where the engine type and size are listed after all the other details. So if youre speaking to a call centre you'd need to know what dial direct call the car, not what Mercedes call it, so you can direct the agent to the right listing!

It is a brand new car and I needed insurance to register it car so the number plate didn't help. I gave all the details of make, model etc but was told they could not insure it as it was not listed. Hastings insured it by giving these details no problem. So had to cancel Dial Direct and pay £60 for the privilege.

Yeah, that's dial direct all right. Their vehicle listings are bonkers. If you ever need to use them again in a similar situation,go online and you can search their vehicle listing when creating a new quote. Then you can tell the person on the phone the exact name of the vehicle in their system.
