Refund for unused Simple Delivery label

Hi, I sold a book on eBay but I didn't spot that they had changed it to Simple Delivery, so I posted it as normal. I won't be using the label now so can I request a refund for the unused label and how do I do it?

TIA

    Maybe, depending on whether you or the buyer paid for the label.

    Ebay description;

    If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.

    • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used
    • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. You can request a refund up to 14 days after receiving the label

    Scroll down this page and there’s a claim form. It’s a tight time frame for claiming and it’s not guaranteed. I’m surprised you missed all the SD bumph though as it’s pretty obvious as soon as you open the sale as it tells you which service buyer has chosen and offers the option of a QR code of a label to print.

    Also to ensure you get paid and don’t get an INR, make sure you add your tracking to the sale to replace the eBay tracking.

    Thanks for the info, I will try to claim it back.

    It depends how you process orders, but I don't think that it's very clear at all. I prefer to post by Royal Mail using stamps and I didn't choose to use Simple Delivery, so have tried to change my listings from Simple Delivery as much as I can. I just need to print an invoice, so I don't require a postage label, and there is very little warning that there is a prepaid label, particularly if I'm printing off a list of orders.

    My fault I missed it I guess but I think eBay could make it clearer.

    I don't know what your account shows you but on mine I don't get given the buyers address for simple delivery orders so it's not possible for me to miss the fact its simple delivery?

    EDIT: I'm adding this edit at the top as it has just occurred to me to ask whether your postage was buyer pays or seller pays (ie free postage). If it was buyer pays then buyer will automatically get their postage refunded when the label flags as unused. If it was seller pays (ie free postage to buyer) then you can reclaim it as you will have been charged for it.

    On my sales page it says whether I need to buy/print my own label or click to get the SD label- that's before I even get into the sale. As you sent it with stamps I suspect you don't have tracking, which might be problematic as I'm sure someone on here who tried to reclaim the label cost said they needed to add new tracking details. However the SD system seems to change every few weeks- so they might have taken that requirement away now. I've never had to claim a refund for an unused label so hopefully the claim form is now simple.

    Meanwhile you can see how much you've been charged for the SD label if you go into the order details. One of mine today - a standard LL shows:

    Postage*£2.25

    VAT*£0.45

    Which is the £2.70 buyer paid for the label. (mine are set up for buyer pays)

    Unless you select 'print label' this is all I see;

    The full destination address will appear on your prepaid label.
