Goes to show, concentration exists in many indexes. At the extreme, a single company (Nokia) once accounted for 70% of Finland's index.

Double checked my numbers and it's 47% FTSE100
The oft heard over concentrated S&P has 39% in the top 10, names we all know and love

The difference being that concentration in the S&P is all related to a single sector whereas concentration in the FTSE is spread.

The top 10 in the FTSE comprises 10% of the entire index by number of companies. An equivalent concentration measure for the S&P should be the top 50 companies - which is 62%.
