£500 for two basic internal doors?

We've been quoted ~£500 to supply and fit two basic internal doors for walk in storage cupboards in the hall of our flat. I get that two doors + hinges, catches and handles would be around £150 (eg from Wickes) but surely it wouldn't take £350 worth of labour to fit them? What would you think is a reasonable figure?

Just replacing the doors like for like or replacing frames as well? Are they a standard size or are they going to have to cut down the doors they buy?

They disposing of your old door or leaving them with you?

Where are you based? Obviously London will be more expensive than a small town.

Seems a little high to me assuming not central London but not totally crazy. Why not get another quote?

  • Thanks for the reply. Just the doors and I think they will have to cut them down a bit. I'll ask them about disposing of the doors, that might save me some money. We're in Nottingham not central London so expecting to pay normal person prices.

    Does that include vat?

    £500 less 20% vat = £400, Less £150 for doors etc= £250.
£250 will include collection of materials, transport cost, and labour cost. And I would expect them to charge a full day

    So less than £30 p/hr.

A thankyou is payment enough .

It's probably about the right price if the job is decent. It's rare doors will fit first time without a bit of trimming. Rebating hinges, latches etc. all takes time.

Most trades look to earn around £300 per day these days. This has to cover fuel, insurance, replacing tools, training etc.
