lost handbag in shop and overstayed parking

driver was shopping and was going to register to pay. Handbag was missing! Searched everywhere in panic then waited at door to see if anyone was leaving with it. Eventually enlisted staff who were slow, until the manager started searching the upper floor and to drivers relief came back with bag, phone, and wallet still inside. Driver had to line up to pay. It was a couple weeks later owner of car received PCN for 30 mins overstay. It was not the owner driving the car that day. Searched everywhere for receipt, which could not be located, and thought all was lost. Went to store to ask for a letter from them. Receipt was found to prove driver was at that store. They said contact corporate. After 3 emails, Corporate said go back to local store to resolve it. A couple of visits to store to get letters to say driver was delayed due to loss of property at store. There was a back and forth and manager asked driver to send via email proof of ticket. She would get it dismissed. Driver went back after a week of no follow-up, including asking through email. Was told to wait. Eventually, email came through that private parking facility will not dismiss ticket. Driver has never corresponded with Group Nexus, and the fine kept going up. Driver was trying to gather evidence from store and corporate and in the end they neither provided letter to support the case nor had ticket removed. Driver has all email correspondence with corporate and the local store where proof of ticket was emailed to manager. Manager suggested driver appeal to parking facility and that is all. What to do from here?

    What store was this?

I imagine you're past the appeals stage if Nexus have increased the pcn cost.

Have you read the NEWBIES announcement thread top of page 1

OK so are you in time to appeal to Group Nexus? There is a month from issuance of the fake 'PCN' invoice. What's the issue/posting date?

You will never have to pay it by the way so you can calm down about this invoice. It isn't a fine. And appeals are usually pointless so it doesn't really matter because you'll end up cheerfully ignoring Group Nexus anyway.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • the original issuing date was 28 November 2025. Just before Christmas. couldn’t find receipt, so visited the store trying to get them to recall the incident. Went a few times on separate days till the manager, who found the bag, remembered. In the end it was her who said she’d get it dismissed.

  • since then, it has been a back and forth trying to procure a letter. I have no idea why they wouldn’t just provide it.

  • every delay cost time, and it is a legit reason to not be able to exit a parking lot. Couldn’t!

But stop wasting your time on all this. You are too late to appeal now; you should have done that in December.

That ship has sailed so ignore the letters. There is no next step.

Don't show us the letters please. They are already in post 4 of the NEWBIES thread and it tells you what to do.

If the store is part of a retail park try to find the landowner then complain about your unfair pcn and lack of assistance received from the Homesense management.

@criminals123 Where was this retail park? There might be other threads on this board from other posters who have experienced something similar.
