Threads CLOSED when moved from Comps Time to Game Over

The normal practice is to move threads from Comps Time to Game Over once the comps have expired. Since the introduction of the "internal" closing date I understand this is partly or fully automated.

Comps ending 31/01 and 01/02 have been moved OK, but have also been CLOSED.

Compers do not want or need this. Posts in closed threads can not be accessed by the editor.

Please check why this is happening and please revert to the previous practice.

Hi @One-Eye we're not quite sure what happened here. I'm currently reopening the threads that are shown as closed.

Moving expired comps to Game Over is done by a combination of our volunteer Ambassadors, and the Forum Team.

We'll keep an eye on what happens in the next few days in case there is a technical issue.

The Game Over board has special settings which means that threads are closed to new responses without explicitly having the 'closed' tag applied.

    Thanks @MSE_James

Some that were showing "closed" earlier are now OK

It is OK that threads in Game Over are closed to new responses, but we occasionally need to edit existing posts.

Surely, the way the new system has always been intended to work is that, at midnight on the date set in the Closing Date field the thread becomes "Closed"
The following day, an Ambassador manually moves all of the "Closed" threads to Game Over.

Perhaps @Haribobo19 or @Misslayed could confirm.

Surely, the way the new system has always been intended to work is that, at midnight on the date set in the Closing Date field the thread becomes "Closed" . The following day, an Ambassador manually moves all of the "Closed" threads to Game Over.

The problem is that there are two relevant statuses and they are both called "closed".

The first "closed status" is when a comp is beyond its "internal" ending date. In this status the posts in the thread can still be edited by the posters. One need for this is when someone mistakenly puts an internal end date before the current date when creating a thread. If they can edit the thread they can correct the problem. When comps with this status are moved to Game Over they can still be edited, but new responses can't be added to the thread.

The second "closed status" is fully closed and posters can't edit their posts. I believe this status is not unique to Comps Time.

It would be better if the first status was called "Expired" and the second was called "Closed"

If you look at page six of the search results returned by the link below you will see that comps from 2021 and before are "Closed" and those from 2022 forward are just "Expired"

OK, thanks One-Eye, I didn't know there were 2 versions of Closed. That explains it all.
As you say, it would be better if the first status was called Expired.

    Yes,

The 'Closed' on Comps Time is a strange in-between. It doesn't get a label.

I believe the intention when we upgrade Comps Time will be that the Comps don't close on the closing date. They just automatically move to Game Over on expiry date.

Meanwhile comps that closed on Monday are now in Game Over without being explicitly 'closed' so things seem to be OK for now but we will continue to look out for oddities.
