Any chance the payee bank was Barclays?. They had serious issues over the w/end.

I've just checked - it was Metro Bank

RBS being clueless and don't know why it happened, have told me it could take 20 days to get it back and that it would be quicker to contact the payee myself.

Have told them that is their job to sort the return and mine is put in a complaint (which I have done)

Payee banks don't really have anything to do with standing orders, they don't know to expect or request a payment that happens to be the same amount. The control is all on the payer bank's side.
