Still struggling with buyers remorse – 7 weeks on. Did I make the right decision?
As a family of 5 we decided to move as we only had one bathroom, one of the bedrooms was downstairs, we needed an office and a proper garage, we didn't like the street the previous property was on and it had no kerb appeal (you can see how the agent expertly put the front house pictures at the end)
However I loved the layout and garden of the last hours and now we have moved I can't get over it and I am pining for the last house. Did I make a mistake? We did plan to extend the new house or knock some walls down but I am struggling to move on. Seems strange asking strangers on the internet but would love to know your thoughts.

Your new house is gorgeous.

We had similar, we loved our old 2 bedroom house but really needed 4 bed. The new place felt odd, like staying in a B&B for months, but now 2 years later I can't even imagine living in the old one.

I like the new house more. It's smart but more homely.
It takes quite some time to make a house a home. Finding out what works for you and the house. It takes a year or two to get it sorted. You need to get a feel for the how you are using the house before moving furniture around.
If it's the garden that you miss it's the right time to start on shaping that. Start with the front, it needs some character and colour. with some big pots of flowers at the front door to take the sight away from the lights and alarm easy.
Cut the hedge back tidy. You could have a flower bed running along the curve of the drive in no time and would look nice from the front window. More welcoming.
Work on the very back of the garden if you're going to build on there. Some rambling roses, blossom trees and fruit.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

I really like the new house - what you miss is the familiarity of the old one - you will get there with this one, particularly when the weather gets better and it all starts to look lovely in the garden

Found moving a roller coaster, at times excited with the new place and other times deeply regretting the purchase. It calms down over time but for us it was more like a year or two than 7 weeks

I love your new home, it’s beautiful.
But, you’ve just told a bunch of strangers on the internet where you and your family live. You may want to remove the second link.1 -
Fair point, removed links

I moved into a house I was familiar with, as I bought it from a friend, but even then it took me over a year for it to feel like home.
7 weeks isn't that long really, so be kind to yourself and give yourself some more time.

Most of us don't really like change, even if it's change we bring upon ourselves!
It's quite common to feel unsure but ultimately pointless to think if you made the right choice, you can't undo things now!
I'm sure you'll feel differently in a few more weeks time.
