Wooden Flooring
Hi,
I’m looking for some recommendations, we moved into our house nearly 2 years ago and my dogs have wrecked the lounge carpet.
Light grey and cheap, now with a brown tint from the mud the dogs have brought in.
I am looking at replacing it with some form of wooden flooring, it needs to be decent quality and deal with dogs on it, so one that won’t be scratched.
Could you please let me know your recommendations.
Many thanks

Personally I'd go for a good quality LVT (Karndean, Amtico) over wood which will scratch from your pets walking on it. It's also waterproof so any "accidents" would be easier to clean up
If you want a "wood look" then you can get wood effect LVT.

I'd say for flooring it's too difficult to get a proper answer.
Visit shops.

We recently moved to a home with wood flooring, dog hates them, she’s like Bambi on the ice and noisy moving around at night
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur1 -
I'd second this for durability. Glue-down LVT.
I'd add Forbo to that list.
Virtually indestructible surface, with all the wood grain texture you could want.
Or consider SPC for a floating type, again highly durable.
Yes, any hard floor will have claws tippy-tapping on it, and have less grip, but that should not be a significant issue unless your dawg is bonkers.

Our dogs loath any sort of vinyl or LVT, they don't seem to be able to grip it. Weirdly they're fine on our porcelain tiles. They didn't seem to mind engineered wood, but it was noisy.

The wood is going to get muddy too and need repeated wet cleaning. And the dogs do skid and slide and is noisy.
Wouldn't it be easier to wash their paws before they come in? Then have a moisture absorbent mat at the entrance.
There's this easy DIY version and there's a smart one outside reception at a caravan park I'll try and get a photo of.
But the moisture absorbent mats are excellent for humans and dogs. Like the ones in shops but small enough to go in a washing machine.
I had a carpet that lasted beyond 2 dogs and a cat with little problem. Mind I did ask for a mud coloured carpet which the shop took great exception to 😉
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

My recent experience; LVT is durable but needs a good base. Plywood if a wooden floor and screed if concrete. Glue down more so than click. Don't forget skirting needs to be removed for the best (IMO) look.
A decent laminate is a bit more forgiving as you can use a thicker underlay. Doors may need trimmed.
Muddy dogs and carpets are not a good combination.
