"Plus there's the whole issue of how the
post-April 1st '£150 a year' cut(for an average bill) will work out in practice"+ approx £40 WHD cost recovery being moved from SC to UR spread across both fuels from 1 April, change unlikely to be automatically applied to existing fixes. anyone who prefers lower SC might be prudent to wait until after 1 April to take on a new fix with exit fees. or visa versa.

That means the most anyone will save by this change is £40pa
i.e. those who do not use any energy at all. We're talking empty homes, perhaps second homes or holiday homes, Maybe at a push homes being renovated (but expect some energy usage at those). Or those who get all their energy from the sun and have batteries for when there is no sun.
In reality, most of those who occupy their homes, even the very lowest of users, are probably only going to save about £20pa.
Chances are, unless they are already on a very competitive fixed deal (probably a NLA one), then they could possibly save over £10 between now and April.
As you say, for all others (and I've read a lot from people on this forum who clearly do not like the idea of lower standing charges), they shouldn't waste a moment longer.
If you like what you see, grab it whilst you can. A bird in the hand …

Simply Fixed Feb27v7

Edited as tariff back on sale again

That s/c discount is mitigated by Ofgem loading the s/c up with new costs, I think, and you can see that in the already published April rates where most people are paying a touch more. Just confirms that Ofgem have no interest in consumers and needs to be closed down asap.

I still see a Feb27v7 in my account. Unit rate still slightly higher than the Jul26v9 I'm on, and SC is over 35% higher, but am wondering if goings on in the world might mean a year fix now is a better bet than what will be available from August. The TopCashBack £21.25 would put a dent in some of the increase.
(this is gas only - i've elsewhere for elec)

I had a little dither (as per my post on 15 Feb) about backing out of my change to the EDF uSwitch 'collective switch' fix and reverting to my prior fix which was due to expire in the summer - but decided to stick with the new fix (which runs until end of March '27), with some vague thoughts of the 2022 energy price crisis in the back of my mind.
I did have a quick second dither last week with the announcement of the greater reduction (from £50 p/a off up to £100 p/a off) to SCs with the EDF Simply Tracker tariff - itself enhanced by the £70 cashback available (£50 plus a further £20 from MSE) - which made it look attractive for lower users, though my estimates at the time suggested for my usage it'd be broadly similar cost-wise to the collective switch fix.
With any of the EDF tariffs there remains the option to change electricity over to one of the FreePhase tariffs (Dynamic or Static) without exit fees, at least as and when I get a smart meter fitted.
However, given current events in and around Persia, am feeling quite glad to have fixed my energy rates (and particularly the gas rate) for the next year. Thanks @gpman for the heads-up on the uSwitch collective switch offering, and the more general encouragement to fix (or re-fix!).1
