Obligated to use BT/EE broadband?
I've been trying to sort out my dad's BT sport as he's out of contract. I'm being told by BT/EE that you have to use their broadband service to receive the sports, unsurprisingly they are more expensive than everyone else, why is this and what happens if you are mid contract with another provider? This seems somewhat dodgy to be forced to use their service rather than a cheaper option.
Thanks

You need to do a bit more research!
You certainly aren't forced to use a particular company.
What broadband infrastructure do you have available in the locality?
EXACTLY what sports package do you need, Sky, TNT or something else.
Sky and TNT are available through many ISPs and apps, but that may mean you need different hardware.0 -
BT don’t really have sport , and TNT Sport , if that’s what you mean , can be accessed via the Discovery + app , on a firestick for example or the TV may have its own Discovery + application , you can also get TNT Sports on Sky and Virgin so it’s nonsense to say you need BT broadband, but if you want BT/EE TV with TNT Sports on the BT/EE set top box , and on the set top programme guide etc rather than loading up an application or switching around between ‘boxes’ , then BT/EE TV needs BT/EE broadband.
Discovery+ doesn’t care who you have broadband with.

I think the BT/EE TV Pro Box internet mode relies on you having BT or EE broadband.

If by BT Sport you mean 'the sport via BT/EE TV' then you need BT/EE broadband for BT/EE TV.
But BT Sport as was, now TNT, is available through Discovery+ using any ISP as is Sky Sports through Now using any ISP.
If he also has Amazon Prime for completeness of football coverage, I believe you can add TNT and Sky Sports through that. Again, any ISP can be used.
If your dad uses BT/EE TV to record programmes and is familiar with their menu and not keen on flicking around apps, could be worth calling BT/EE to see what deals are available. A small premium for the convenience factor and lack of hassle could be worth it.

TNT sport is usually quite a bit cheaper with BT broadband so you have to look at total cost of the broadband and TNT to check the best value (when it used to be BT sport I think it was about a £10 a month off the sport price if you had BT broadband as well)
