I'm no supporter of WASPE, but I'm surprised that no-one appears to have mentioned that the oft-quoted 3.6 million 1950s born women figure is way off. Between 500K and 1m of these women will have left work/retired after paying NI Code B (married women's stamp) and so a letter may not have been even necessary.

... it does seem a bit daft for MSE to close the existing 'unofficial' thread about this, only to then start an 'official' one instead!

As an outsider looking in, it seems that the MSE News people have been told to always create a forum thread for each news item and to invite readers to "join the forum to reply". I guess this is as an alternative to having a dedicated comments section on the news pages.

The problem, as we've regularly noted, is that where the news article concerns certain controversial topics (like WASPI) the comments threads are doomed to be closed by the MSE Forum people when the controversy spills offer into the comments.

It seems like it would more sense for the MSE News people to check with the MSE Forums people before creating these threads, but that's not how MSE Towers is wired to communicate internally.

This would never have happened under a Tory government
