Thanks for all of your comments. In answer to your comment QrizB your pic shows the electric meter, which is separate but the gas meter is actually attached to the original meter.

I'm not happy with having a smart meter as there always seems to be reports of them going dumb, but it looks as if I'll have to.

Re SAC2334 I will check the rate I'm paying but my understanding has always been that we pay more for our gas and electric.

Once again, thanks for all your comments.

Glad this thread has helped and sorry for all the digression!

I'm not happy with having a smart meter as there always seems to be reports of them going dumb, but it looks as if I'll have to.

Note that even if a smart meter goes "dumb" you can still read it manually much as you would read a traditional credit meter, so you're not really any worse off than you would be if they'd fitted a traditional meter in the first place.

When your smart meter is fitted, please come back and let us know how you get on with it.

I think there is a three percent leeway in accuracy so you may replace a meter that is running three percent fast with one that is running three percent slow - six percent cheaper or vice-versa, or much more likely to be around 1-2 percent difference but do check over a week or so. Mine worked out at around three percent cheaper, so lucky.
