Air Purifier vs Dehumidifier Combi

Hello,

I was looking at a dedicated Air Purifier but I see you get combined Air Purifier with Dehumidifier - can you anyone tell me if there is disadvantage getting combined unit, rather than a dedicated purifier unit?

I was looking at the Meaco ones - does anyone have any opinions on these or any other brands?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Frank

I notice on the website it says:

Many Meaco dehumidifiers (for example, the MeacoDry Arete® Two range) include built-in medical-grade H13 HEPA filters that help remove dust and particles from the air, though they are not substitutes for full air purifiers.

The MeacoDry Arete® and MeacoDry ABC ranges include filters that support better indoor air quality while managing humidity, but they don’t contain HEPA filters unless otherwise stated.

Dehumidifiers are very noisy and power hungry.

I guess if you could get one where you can run it purely in purifier mode that wouldn't be so bad, but in short - no, I wouldn't buy a dehumidifier if I wanted an air purifier.

I have a meaco combi, but it's because I needed a dehumidifier and the hepa filter was just a happy little bonus.

I've been happy with the brand. I've had it about 2 years and had no problems with it.

I have a Meaco desiccant dehumidifier and it is very power hungry and noisy, consuming 350W on the lowest setting (I don't recall mine being advertised as an air purifier).

My air purifier consumes 8-12-20 W (sleep-low-high modes). Though it is designed for use in one medium-sized room, not a whole floor.

I have a Meaco arete. It's good because I only need to have it in dehumidier mode when the humidity is high. The rest of the time I run it as an air purifier and it costs pennies to run.

It does work well as an air purifier and the filters trap a lot of dust. The filters are about £10 each and I change them every 3 month. I give them a hoover every few weeks too - you'll be shocked at how much dust they pull in.

Thanks! So do you have 2 separate units or combined?

Do you think its better having the separate units?

I have separate units. I don't need a dehumidifier in the room the air purifier is in. In any case the two functions (purifying air and extracting moisture from air) are different and IMHO require different designs, if you are looking for the optimuum performance from both machines.

For example the filters on my dehumidifiers are less dense than the HEPA filter on my air purifier.

We run a dehumidifier in our hall, which has a engineered wood flooring and it is surprising how much stoor the filter collects. We just have a filter not the HEPA type and just give the filter a hoover when doing general clean of machine and area.

We use a EBAC, mainly for the long guarantee but there are some good discounts on their site just now.
