Single trip vs annual cover
Hi,
Apologies if this answer is hidden anywhere (i'm unable to locate this).
Basically, I'll be taking an overseas trip from 17th July to 16th August (however, the return flight is overnight and so lands on the morning of the 17th August).
The trip is 31 days, however if I count the day I land home, it's 32 days.
I'm wondering if it's worth risking buying annual cover (which has a max of 31 days per trip) or just accepting the higher cost of the single trip cover.
Has anybody been in a similar position? I can't seem to find out whether the return flight will make the trip go over the limit🤔

Just buy cover for more then 31 days, not that complicated.

The reason for the query is actually that annual cover is for trips for 31 days.
Single trip cover is 3 x the price so, a little complicated.

Most annual policies allow you to extend your individual trips for a small cost. We did it through the post office, and the additional premium added cover for trips up to 45 days.

Hi,
Thank you so much for this. It's really helpful. I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if they allow this 😀

Just make sure your home insurance covers you for your home being empty (presume it will be empty, may be wrong though) - some policies restrict it to 30 days.

We've had a few holidays over the last few years that have been exactly 30 days for this reason. Both the travel insurance and the home insurance are then still okay. Don't want to be Cpt hindsight, but it's a factor to consider as part of the planning. We also visited one country with a 30 day max stay on a tourist visa, so it seems a good number to aim for. Check the Ts&Cs, but i suspect the annual policy won't cover any of the trip if the whole trip is more than 31 days, but worth checking if it's just the 32nd day onwards - you could get a separate policy for that, if it does maybe.

Home and travel may have different answers to the same question… Home certainly will count the night you are in the air as another night the property is unoccupied. Travel insurance could go either way, rather than asking random people online and not even revealing which insurer is being considered it would be much better to simply ask the insurer in question.
A simplier option is simply to buy annual policy that allows a longer trip, you can get up to 90 days cover with minimal effort. Often the length is linked to the grade of the policy, ie going from Bronze to Gold may increase the max trip length.

"Travel insurance more than 30 days" into Google brings up masses of options.
