Travel insurance wording

when searching for travel insurance one of the questions that comes up is:

Have you: Been currently put on a waiting list for treatment or investigation?

I have paid privately to get off a waiting list. so technically I’m no longer on a waiting list for treatment or investigation. I had the test and have the results and now awaiting GP comment. However technically…. I am answering the question honestly and truthfully …. am I covered under this wording?

From my personal experience you will find that you will not be covered for any condition until you have a formal diagnosis.

I don’t want to be covered for it though (it could be any of 10 conditions at this point) Sorry I should have said, it’s not anything that i would want to be covered by insurance… as there is no way any of the 10 conditions could affect/effect me on holiday.

so the question is not that I want to be covered for this possible condition but whether the wording is interpreted in the right way…

If you are still under investigation for ANY medical condition you need to tell the insurer even if YOU think it may not affect your holiday.

They will then advise if they will cover you excluding that condition.

You are still under investigation until you have a firm diagnosis. However, even once you get that from your GP, you are very unlikely to find an insurance provider that will exclude some conditions and not others. As I was once told, “You can’t cherry pick”. You can opt to exclude ALL medical conditions.

but I’m not under investigation technically. I don’t have any tests or investigations pending… that’s the point - technically I am answering the question correctly.

OK, wing it and take a chance of them not covering you for anything due to your failure to disclose.

From what the OP says they are not on a waiting list for investigation, but will still be classed as on a waiting list for treatment. That will remain the situation until they have spoken to the GP and have an outcome.

As others have said, it would be very unusual for an insurer to allow a client to pick and choose which medical conditions they wanted cover for, and which they didn't. That may be possible, but the OP would need to speak to an insurance broker to find such specialised cover.

    What other questions are asked?

Is there one which Dks if you are awaiting a diagnosis?

One which asks about any condition that you have seen your GP or medical person about in the last xx years?

Whether it could affect you on holiday does not matter. If you don’t declare it but make a claim where your GP is asked for your medical records it will show up as undeclared and could void your policy/ claim.

If the insurance company agree it does not matter then there will be no increase in your premium because of it.

This won't fly, investigations are on going until you have a diagnosis or the symptoms have ceased. You normally have to declare anything thats been in the last 2-5 years so would still be declarable even if it went away of its own accord before the diagnosis and you abandoned the investigation.

Take the risk if you want, thats your choice, but do so knowing that an insurer is going to consider it still under investigation.

Non-disclosure could be an issue with most insurers. I think Allclear allow you to tick the box saying you are awaiting results or a diagnosis and they will exclude that condition, however once you have a full prognosis you then have to tell them.
