Modern Storage Heaters versus Standard Electric Radiators

  • thank you this is all very helpful in making my choices!

  • I have made the assessment by comparing usage and cost since I have had the new meter installed, which is a regular tarriff. historically with storage heaters my usage was 77% off-peak 23% peak. Applying those ratios to my new regular tarrif usage in the short period of I had it, the average daily cost is about £2.15 more expensive, which would add up to £785 annually. I realise though that the comparison is not precise given that my recent usage is one radiator down (but compensated by using plug in appliances when needed), and the old storage heater only comes on for 7 hours overnight.

Overall though, based on all the very helpful feedback i think it makes sense to update both storage radiators with new models, and try to get the best Econo-7 or preferably Econo-10 tarriff on offer.

E10 seems to largely be being phased out now - at least by many suppliers, although someone did mention I think OVO looking to voluntarily support it again. There are specialist smart tariffs though which could suit those in your situation - Octopus might be a good starting point for these. Apologies OP, I have not gone back to the thread to see who you are currently with, but if looking at a switch to Octopus remember to check with family and friends for a referral code which will get both you and the referrer £50 each bill credit.
