Repair company no show

I'm not sure where to put this but I'm looking for some advice. I have booked a tumble dryer repair by the company who manufactures the products (AEG).

I had to pay £200 for a fixed fee repair and been given a repair date. The date has gone and no one turned up. I rang AEG but they said it's Electrolux that contracted out the repair.

So I rang Electrolux who rang another company who contracts out repairs in their behalf. Anyway a long story short this has now been escalated by the manager as they are unable to get hold of the repair contractor company and will find out within the next few days what on earth is going on.

I feel disappointed as I been waiting weeks for the repair and still in limbo.

What actions can I take, I feel like I should get compensated because I had to rearrange kitchen to make space for the repair man only to move everything back, also time off work.

What would be for the best?

You can wait and see what is going on, or cancel the booking and insist on a refund because they have breached the contract to repair if you agreed a specific date with them. If you wait, when they come back with a new date (which I presume they will) then there's nothing to stop you asking for a discount on the basis of them having mucked you around, but you're not entitled to one.

I presume the machine is sufficiently old that you're not bothering to tackle this with the retailer, using your consumer rights?

I think I would be cancelling the booking and requesting a refund.

£200 for a repair of a tumble dryer is a lot given the prices for new tumble dryers.

I assume the fact the OP countenanced paying for the repair indicated the dryer is sufficiently aged that the machine is out of warranty and any "reasonable durable" challenges are irrelevant.

I get that the OP might not want absolutely the cheapest tumble dryer available, but spending a bit more than the proposed repair cost can get the OP a brand new device and all back with full warranties etc.

However the OP has an AEG (I agree, not very money-saving).

Currys' prices for AEG tumble dryers are around the £1,000 mark 😮

Other retailers are available offering AEG Tumble Dryers from under £500:

Other manufacturers of tumble dryer are available.

Tumble dryers are one of the items which, in my opinion, buying a more "premium" product does not get much more in the way of performance or efficiency. All tumble dryers are horrific from a money- and energy-saving perspective.

Most likely Pacifica, who are very difficult to deal with.

Do you not have a local repair guy? £200 sounds very steep.

Yea it is Pacifica. It's about 4 years old now and was around £600. No local repair guy will touch it because it's a heated pump.

Yea I thought it was a lot and also thought about buying a new one but once you included delivery, installation and removing the old one the price creeps up.

I will see what they say but it shouldn't be this difficult to get someone to fix and ask for any sort of compensation.I won't be buying AEG again. Looking at reviews this was recommended by many.
