I liked someone's definition on here that FD is still a telephone bank in a digital age, that's how I see them. About 20 years ago, they were amazing when compared to having to go to branches for more or less everything, but in the era of apps FD came come across as old fashioned.
These days, I don't think there's much (if anything) that other banks don't do. Whilst I still like them, if I had to move one day, I would. Whereas in the past I would have said no. They have a few things they could update such as restrictions/limitations of their systems and having to call for things that could easily be done online in 2026, but they choose to keep them phone only options. I hope they update things at some point, the whole sticking to black and white seems outdated/basic today but of course that is subjective and some people won't care about such things.

Quite Often that overlap is enforced like only being able to do certain things on website (nationwide are like this) or needing the app to log into the website (FD) which i think is a bit daft given people only use the website when they dont have a smart phone

One would hope that generating a code to log in to the website would not constitute "using the app" for the purposes of the survey. I certainly would not count it as such. I'm ambivalent about generating a code on the app vs looking up a code on an authenticator app - but both are better than using the less secure SMS-based OTP.
There are some things I do using the website even though I have a smartphone. For example, downloading statements, which I want on my computer rather than my phone. Use of the website is easier than downloading on phone, syncing from phone to computer, then deleting from phone. There isn't much else though.

Interesting generalization

I have many personalised names for my payees. Sometimes you can only do something in either web browser or the app. What you can't do is simply change the nickname for a payee once it has been created, you'd have to delete it and set up a new one.

Why would you never use apps if you had a smart phone & did banking online?

Mobile phone screens are small and it's not always comfortable or convenient to use a banking app. I find the mobile phone is to big for my pocket so often don't always take it with me. If I take it I often leave it in my car because I can't be bothered to carry it around with me. Basically, I hate phones.

That's not what you said. You said "…..people only use the website when they dont have a smart phone"

Probably Poorly phrased with the local dialect not coming across well in written text, but its what I meant
