I've read the article.

The opening point - that the UK Govt has taken a £25M stake in Kraken Technologies - is a bit of a red herring. The £25M is from the British Business Bank, the organsation set up by the Gov specifically to invest in UK businesses and try to build more domestic "unicorn companies". You'll see from the same announcement that the BBB is putting £50M into each of two other companies. Business as usual for the BBB.

I accept her point of wondering why Kraken needs £25M, when it has a paper valuation of ~£7 billion; neither the Gov announcement nor the Watt Logic article go any way towarda answering this.

Octopus making relatively thin profits is wat we'd expect for a UK energy supplier; unlike some of the hyperbolic claims made by certain people on this forum, the UK energy suppliers aren't raking it in and their profits are constrained by an active energy regulator.

On the whole, I think perhaps the article's author would have been better placed sleeping off their jetlag before writing that piece.
