Sky Q same price as Sky Stream! - New House Set Up

Hi,
They way my living room is, to have Virgin or Sky Q I would need to hide cable going across one corner of the room to another which is painful, and I'm keen to move in quickly. Therefore I'm going to steam, which I'm worried about as I watch live sport and don't want to be behind and I'm going to buy a new TV for £1000 and want the best picture. However, my house is designed for streaming not connected TV.
I'm gobsmacked that Sky Stream is now the same price as Sky Q ( which offers so much more live recording, storage, and robust connection for live sport and picture) - therefore I don't think I'm willing to pay it and seek alternative methods.
Has anyone faced the same issue?

If you go for Sky Stream then you will need a decent WiFi signal wherever you place the puck and for UHD at least 30 Mbps of available bandwidth for it to run without buffering.
Stream works much better on an ethernet connection.0 -
Hi, yes my problem is my router will be the other side of the room than the TV and sky stream puck so I couldn't ethernet them together, unless the ethernet was laid across the floor or hidden in the walls, the second option I would consider if necessary.Ayr_Rage said:If you go for Sky Stream then you will need a decent WiFi signal wherever you place the puck and for UHD at least 30 Mbps of available bandwidth for it to run without buffering.

Shouldn't be a problem to use WiFi if all devices are in the same room.FrancisBegbie said:

Given that you can't buy Q anymore what makes you think that Sky Q is the same price as Sky Stream? What do you have now?0

Another vote here for powerline adapters. When I was just using wireless for SkyQ to router , I got random drop outs or reduced quality piccies, not so with powerline.0

Ethernet cables are small enough to be hidden in decorative trunking and similar.
WiFi and Powerline are variable feasts.
NB no sport is really live any more unless one is in the stadium.
Encoding delays... transport delays (satellite up and down links) and decoding delays all come into it and are measured in seconds at least.

Sky Q being discontinued by 2029

I would try Now TV for now (without a contract, to see if it suits) rather than locking into a contract for what seems to be an inferior service compared to their previous offering. It is possible to rewind on Now TV, and the event may be available to stream on a catch up basis for a time after broadcast (I noticed it wasn't so good for the darts this year compared to last, but I don't buy Sky Sports for anything else so availability may vary by sport.)
