Morning all
Dry here for now but more rain due later 🙄 I have stripped the beds this morning and got the first load in the wm, I will light the fire once the wm has finished and put it in front of it on the airer, it has no chance of drying outside today.
Dinner tonight is steak chips and roasted tomatoes, we should have had this last night so moved it to today, the roast chicken will now be tomorrow.I got the steamer out yesterday to clean the drain holes in the sink and ended up cleaning all the cupboard fronts and tiles, so the invoices did not get done 😂 I must do them today! The kitchen looks lovely though 😃
I do hope Lionel is comfortable, as others have said he is one of us now, hugs to Gers too xx
Have good days all and take care xx6 -
Morning all! It absolutely hammered it down last night but yesterday was fine so it was day 2 of digging out the fruit cage. Had a good chat with nd allotment neighbour, gave hm some cake and we grumbled about plots not being used. One or two more days of effort and I can start moving stuff about. Today we're having Christmas dinner with friends but looks like one won't be joining as she has this flu and is in hospital now, fingers crossed she kicks it off soon. Other than that, I'm not planning on doing anything strenuous, and a roll around on the sofa groaning is predicted for later on.Yorkslass, Lidl often have a mini chopper thing for about 9 pounds, it's pretty good, I use one I found in a charity shop, it was so good I got one for my mil who has problems chopping onions etc. I use mine to make soffritto, for mincing the veg under meat for gravy, breadcrumbs, all sorts.. My sister did get me the one that comes with a whist, a soup blender and a chopper, so if you need any of those, that one is really good too, that's about fifteen or twenty. Sometimes you can find them secondhand on fb or something. Derek, good luck on your next date. Gers, hope Lionel is still in good spirits, nice to have a family rally too. Allie, well done on your sortings out, I'll take a leaf out of your book next week
Stacy Solomon, look out! OK, I'm off, take care all, get well soon those with the lurgy or body parts that don't work....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8 -

Good afternoon everyone.:
Thanks for the start Scarlet.
It's dull but fine at the moment but rain expected later.
Yesterday afternoon I decided to get out of my chair and go in the garden. It was quite pleasant and I managed to dig over my side vegetable plot, finding a few potatoes who'd escaped the harvest and were consigned to the bin. I then raked over the soil (can't rake to save my life, it always looks like there's somebody buried underneath).
Today I have washed my towels and will dry them in the tumble dryer (2nd mortgage required).
I had bad news regarding my fridge/freezer, the fridge is kaput so a new appliance arrives tomorrow.
Gers - hope Lionel is comfortable.
Mehefin - hope the meeting goes well.
Dp1 - hope the cream eases LOs discomfort
As always thoughts to the sad, lonely or poorlies
Take care x

Thanks @Scarlet for starting today's thread and a very wet good afternoon to all. We had some welcome and unexpected sunshine yesterday but, looking at the forecast, that may well be our quota for the rest of the month! The first week of February doesn't sound promising either with sleet getting a mention. Still, I'm thankful that, unlike other parts of the UK, we've escaped the worst of the winter weather here (so far) and I keep reminding myself that Spring is just around the corner.
Yesterday's mac'n cheese was much enjoyed, improved I think by using a small truckle of Red Leicester & Chilli cheese for the sauce and topping. Two extra portions to be frozen. On today's menu is cottage pie with the last of the cheap Xmas sprouts and some carrots, fruit & jelly for afters.
Nothing in particular planned for today but it is Slothful Sunday after all! Thanks @-taff for the mention of your mini chopper, I'll do some investigating this afternoon on the different kinds. I try not to have too many kitchen gadgets and do have a food processor but a mini one does sound like a useful addition. My houseplants could do with some TLC, I have a new jigsaw to start and the evening's TV viewing to plan so that's my day sorted.
@TA - Bad luck on the out of stock items in Sainsbobs. I bet there were plenty of Easter eggs though!
@Coxy and @Suffolksue - Sorry you had a rubbish night's sleep, hopefully tonight will be better.
@camelot - Well done on sewing up the cardigan (with the sleeves in the right place
). I don't enjoy the sewing up bit either.
@WL - Tooth sockets can take a while to heal, especially if the offending tooth was a back molar but glad to hear your mouth is feeling a bit better, you'll soon be back to solids!
@Redcross - Sorry to hear your fridge/freezer has expired, I hope the new one arrives tomorrow as planned.
Happy Burns Night to our Scottish contingent, enjoy the celebrations. Thinking of those who are feeling poorly, sad, lonely or just plain fed up, hugs if needed. Take care all. XXBe kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Hi everyone,
I lost a day and a half to a migraine. I always seem to get them when I've had a spell of poor sleep, my body can't cope with four hours a night for long. I ended up sleeping most of yesterday but I still have a niggling pain in my head.
We've just had our plans for the next few weeks upended. We were going to Bristol again this Friday so that Steve and Brian could go to the Welsh property to do some work. However, the workmen who were coming in to install radiators and the heat pump are now no longer coming so it's pointless S and B going down. That has now been postponed to Valentine's weekend but that means I have to postpone an evening with friend which had already been postponed from New Year. What a palaver. B and L had guests booked in the house for that week as well so have had to ask them to cancel.
At least it means I'll have decent prep time for Steve's birthday weekend at Center Parcs. I'm going to do a pork and broccoli lasagne to take, buy some nice pizzas - the Croasta and Mollusca ones are lovely and fewer upf's than most. I'm just trying to think of something to take which is suitably celebratory but can be taken to be reheated on his actual birthday. Any ideas gratefully received.
TA, your post reminded me that growing up we had the same things on the same night week in and week out. Money was tight and I suppose it was easy for mum with 4 (later 5) children to do the same things every week. Even when my two were small I tended to do spaghetti bolognaise or cottage pie every week and probably other things on regular rotation. Now we seem to have much more variety.
Mehefin, good luck with the meet up.
Hugs to the poorlies.
Have a good day.9 -
SNOOZER I hope you are soon feeling better. Sorry your plans have been turned upside down.
We were the same with meals when I was a child. Sunday dinner was always a joint of corner cut of inlift (now known as Topside!), A sandwich of thinly sliced beef for tea, followed by tinned fruit and Nestles cream. Then the beef got minced to make Cottage Pie on Monday, Rissoles on Tuesday and "Cornish" pasties on Wednesday. This never varied! But the rest of the week did vary but, as rationing was still in force, I suppose it depended on what was available. They would never belief the variety of food available these days would they!
