I am dealing with my recently passed grandmas affairs as I am the remaining next of kin, I haven't had to apply for probate due to a small bank balance, I have had a letter from dwp requesting some overpaid pension back which I have done it also states on the letter if I'm dealing with the esate and she recived means tested benefits they may need to write to me again if im dealing with the estate and this could lead to a claim against the estate, pension credit was recived and I've not heard form them yet, how long would be if they were going to write to me if they were going to do this

It is highly unlikely that you will here anything more, queries regarding pension credit are usually triggered by the estate valuation submitted on a probate application which won’t happen in this case.0

Thanks I'm.just concerned as I think I owe them a couple of weeks pension credit paid after date of death and haven't had any correspondence from from them at all I don't think anything would be owed anyway but I need to arrange for a headstone and just not wanting to touch it in case0

If there's no money left after for paying for all the funeral expenses then you just need to tell DWP that the estate is insolvent so no money is available to repay anything. You are not obliged to make any payments yourself, i.e. outside of the estate.
Unfortunately the cost of a headstone isn't considered part of the funeral expenses according to this website - Bereavement Advice Centre | Insolvent Estates
If the estate left enough for the headstone then I'd wait a few weeks in case there is correspondence. (unlikely as per Keep_pedalling). For my MiL we had a letter from DWP within about a month of her death regarding an overpayment for attendance allowance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. My father died over 20 years ago. As executor a few months later, I received a letter from DWP saying they had overpaid his pension. Since they did not give the date of the overpaid pension, I could not check to confirm or otherwise their allegation. So I ignored the letter and heard nothing more from themIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Pension Credit will check that the savings reported do not result in the claim being in ineligible.0
