House clearance

House clearance to prepare a house for sale after a death in the family is a minefield and an almost impossible for any of us to manage through the pain and fog of grief. It's a horrible experience when not done with care but its not something I've heard peope talk about here. I've just seen a video by the company Clearance Grafters (I am in no way connected with this company, so this isn't an advert) that explains the process of house clearance for anyone that may need such services - its worth a watch as its the first of its type that I've seen. It's a bit long so in the throes of grief you might want to watch it in chunks.

There are any number of us who have employed professional house clearers, and it is a relatively frequent topic on this board, albeit without a specific company being put forward.

There will be numerous such companies available in most areas and I’m afraid your post reads like a promotion, which is against forum rules.

Indeed, I've said that the company we used was worth every single one of the considerable number of pennies we paid them, BUT they were a small local company, and they've since retired.

And IMO a national company is only ever going to be as good as its local representatives ...

We used british heart foundation £1500  3 bedroom house conservatory loft garage and shed.  It was very weird seeing everything bundled up in 3 large van loads to be taken to tip. They only kept the 3 piece 2 arm chairs to sell.  We had had previous quotes £5000 We had to wait a month before they could fit us in and took all day.

Another recommendation for British Heart Foundation. They completely cleared my father’s house in a day removing everything including a pile of hedge clippings in the garage and some demijohns of strange liquids and hoovered the house afterwards.

I’d recommend British Heart Foundation as well. Had a quote under £400 for them and was a bit sceptical as other quotes were for £1k to £1.5k. They also quoted an hour to clear it whereas others said anything from half a day to two days. It was only furniture and everything else had been cleared already. All firms saw exactly what was required by visiting beforehand.

In the end I chose to trust them. Everything cleared in just over an hour as they had to dismantle two wardrobes to get them downstairs. They’ve since managed to sell around £600 worth of goods which we were pleased about as one clearance firm was simply going to dump it all and there were a few pieces hardly used.
