Lease car and credit rating

A couple of years ago I had some financial problems which incurred around £12,000 of debt.
I got to grips with it, had great help from Stepchange, and am now in a much better situation, paying creditors and on the right path.
I’ve now been offered a new job, but it involves a lot of driving. Financially, it would be fantastic, and would allow me to settle my debts 2 years earlier. A reliable car is a must. I’ve looked into leasing a really cheap basic car like a Corsa but I don’t pass the credit checks of the leasing companies I’ve tried.

I’m now far more financially astute, and can afford the monthly lease. I’ve costed every penny but it makes no difference. I can’t get a loan to buy an old car, and I will need something that has a warranty package. I have around £250-300 a month to pay for a lease car.

I appreciate my financial problems have screwed me up, but it was a glitch that I’ve faced up to. Is there anywhere reputable that might be able to help me?

Does the job require you to have a car and use it extensively? Do the employer or job role itself place restrictions on the type of car?

It reads to me like the creditors are making entirely the correct decision. You have debt which yes, is being paid off. You say you’re more financially astute. Yet are quite willing, through some metal gymnastics, to take on more debt?

Anywhere reputable - how reputable is your future employer?

Since the job involves lots of driving it might be cost-effective for them to provide a car rather than pay all those mileage charges.
Alternatively, a salary sacrifice car scheme could be attractive for them (and you, of course).

Have you proposed these ideas to them?

You're looking at this as "I can afford £x00 outlay per month". Which is absolutely not the full picture.

They're looking at this as "36 x £x00/mo, plus possession of a £xx,000 asset". Which is. You are, as has been pointed out, taking on a multi-year contract with a substantial financial implication.

Is the "lot of driving" commuting, or actual work mileage? If the latter, then any decent employer should be offering a company car scheme, or at least some sort of semi-arms-length salary sacrifice.
