Dad’s Simple Estate…. and Probate.

Lloyds bereavement team quickly dealt with passing money to me after my father’s death - I couldn’t believe the haste with which they emptied the accounts and also did the same for his Halifax accounts at the same time. The total of all those accounts were in excess of £50k. I was also a Lloyds customer so maybe that helped although I still had to upload ID. The money was in my account before the funeral took place. Do speak with them asap then it will be clear if you need Probate. If they suggest you do it might be worth then explaining you don’t need probate for any other reason as they may have some discretion with it.

The pension people can take a long time we had to wait 5 months for Capita. Also when I originally phoned them up the lady said yes we are retracting the last payment with the bank so you dont have to pay it back. Which the did but then took forever to pay us back the part month and wanted a ridiculous amount of paperwork think about 10 emails a 8 page form and 2 lots of recorded delivery sent

Thank you everyone for your sharing your guidance, advice and experience. I spoke with Lloyds Bereavement Services this morning, who were excellent. They have frozen Dad’s accounts and confirmed that Probate will be needed, so I will begin work on that shortly.
