Was that £6.6k savings or £6.6k in total across all accounts including the income and expenses for the current month?lioness123 said:Hi get uc ...my accounts hadv6.6k in it at moment of application it gone below this now... do I just update my journal ? At the time of application it's all counted as capital as there are no assessment periods until the UC claim is submitted.Grumpy_chap said:

OP you go to Report a change > Money, savings and Investments. They may ask for bank statements but if they do it'll be after you've reported it, not as part of reporting the change. Do it now whilst your totals are below £6k.
For future reference whilst claiming UC, income received in a month is separate from savings/capital so even if the total monies in your accounts go above 6k, not all of it will be savings. You will only need to update them if your savings go above £6,000.2 -
I don't agree with this. Just because you haven't claimed UC doesn't mean all income becomes capital immediately. There will still be a period when it is still income and not yet capital.Spoonie_Turtle said:

I can see why but UC by default counts it all (whether it's supposed to or not - but see below). The guidance states that income becomes capital in the assessment period after the one in which it was received - but there are no APs until a UC claim is submitted. I suppose in the absence of APs you then refer to the time periods for which the income was paid, if arguing it at tribunal for any reason?Yamor said:

However I think overall it's actually irrelevant, because what counts for your first payment is level of capital on the last day of that first AP - so what someone had in total at the beginning of the claim is virtually irrelevant anyway. As long as it wasn't above 16k to make their claim ineligible.2 -
Yes, I hadn't thought of that!Spoonie_Turtle said:

As you say, it would only ever be relevant if there is a question of over £16k and UC were looking to refuse the claim before reaching the end of the AP.1
